Indian Army opts for MBDA
The procurement section of the Indian Ministry of Defence has signed a contract with Indian defence contractor BDL (Bharat Dynamics Ltd.) for the supply of MILAN missiles to the Indian Army. Signed on 3rd December 2008, this contract will see BDL continuing its production under licence agreement with MBDA for the MILAN missile for at least another four years.
BDL has already manufactured well over 30,000 MILAN missiles, in its various variants, under licence to MBDA in an unbroken business partnership that dates back to the 1970s. With the recent contract this partnership has now been further consolidated. Most of the components will be locally sourced and produced in India with BDL also responsible for final assembly. MBDA will be contributing part of the missile pyrotechnics.
Antoine Bouvier, CEO of MBDA, said: “I am doubly delighted by the news of this contract. As well as confirming that MILAN continues to be the weapon of choice for many of today’s modern ground forces, this contract also further cements the close partnership MBDA has developed with BDL over the years”.
Le ministère de la défense indien a signé un contrat avec BDL (Bharat Dynamics Ltd.) pour la fourniture de missiles MILAN à l’armée indienne. Ce contrat, signé le 3 décembre 2008 renouvelle l’accord de licence avec MBDA permettant à BDL de continuer la production du missile MILAN pour au moins quatre ans supplémentaires.
BDL a déjà produit plus de 30 000 missiles MILAN dans ses différentes versions sous licence MBDA, dans le cadre d’un partenariat entamé dans les années 70. Ce nouveau contrat consolide ce partenariat. La plupart des pièces du missile seront produites en Inde, BLD sera en charge de l’intégration finale. MBDA contribuera à l’aspect pyrotechnique.
Antoine Bouvier, CEO de MBDA a déclaré “je suis, à deux titres, très satisfait de la signature de ce contrat. Il conforte la position du MILAN comme le missile de choix pour les armées modernes tout en renforçant le partenariat étroit développé avec BDL depuis de nombreuses années ».
Das indische Verteidigungsministerium hat mit BDL (Bharat Dynamics Ltd.) einen Vertrag für die Lieferung von MILAN-Flugkörpern an die indische Armee geschlossen. Dieser am 3. Dezember 2008 unterzeichnete Vertrag erneuert die mit MBDA getroffene Lizenzvereinbarung, die es der BDL erlaubt, für mindestens vier weitere Jahre die Produktion von MILAN-Flugkörpern fortzusetzen.
BDL hat bereits über 30.000 MILAN-Flugkörper in verschiedenen Versionen unter MBDA-Lizenz im Rahmen einer Partnerschaft hergestellt, die in den 70er Jahren begann. Mit diesem neuen Vertrag wird diese Partnerschaft gefestigt. Der überwiegende Teil der Komponenten des Flugkörpers wird in Indien produziert, wobei die Endmontage von BLD übernommen wird. MBDA leistet einen Beitrag zum pyrotechnischen Teil des Flugkörpers.
“Ich bin in zweierlei Hinsicht sehr zufrieden mit dem Vertragsabschluss. Er stärkt die Position von MILAN als „der“ bevorzugte Flugkörper für moderne Streitkräfte. Gleichzeitig festigt der Vertrag die über viele Jahre entwickelte enge Zusammenarbeit mit BDL“, sagte Antoine Bouvier, CEO der MBDA.
Il Ministero della Difesa indiano ha siglato un contratto con BDL (Bharat Dynamics Ltd.) per la fornitura di missili MILAN all’esercito indiano. Tale contratto, sottoscritto il 3 dicembre 2008, rinnova l’accordo di licenza con MBDA che consente a BDL di continuare a produrre il missile MILAN per almeno altri quattro anni.
BDL ha già prodotto più di 30.000 missili MILAN nelle sue varie versioni, grazie alla licenza concessa da MBDA, nell’ambito di una partnership nata negli anni ’70. Questo nuovo contratto va a consolidare ulteriormente questa partnership.
La maggior parte dei componenti del missile verrà prodotta in India, con BDL che si occuperà dell’integrazione finale. MBDA contribuirà invece alla fornitura delle parti pirotecniche.
Antoine Bouvier, CEO di MBDA, ha dichiarato: “Sono molto soddisfatto della sottoscrizione di questo contratto per due motivi: esso consolida la posizione del MILAN come missile preferito dagli eserciti moderni e rafforza lo stretto rapporto di collaborazione sviluppato con BDL da diversi anni.”
