MBDA delivers 600th TAURUS KEPD 350 to German Luftwaffe
TAURUS System GmbH (TSG), a subsidiary of LFK -Lenkflugkörpersysteme GmbH (MBDA Deutschland) and Saab Dynamics, has delivered the 600th missile to the German Federal Office of Defence Technology and Procurement (BWB). The delivery of the 600th missile marks the successful conclusion of the series order.

“TAURUS KEPD 350 is a positive example of the successful performance on the part of industry” emphasised Brigadier General Hermann Muntz, Assistant Head of the Weapon Systems Command of the Luftwaffe and the Luftwaffe’s highest-ranking procurement officer. “With this system, the German Luftwaffe has at its disposal one of the most modern and effective guided missiles for combating fortified targets from a safe standoff range. For us, the delivery of the 600th missile does not mean that the TAURUS story is now finished. We need to respond to continually evolving mission scenarios and consider further developments”.
The TAURUS KEPD 350 is considered one of the world’s most modern long range standoff guided missile systems. Thanks to its Tri-Tec navigation system, which consists of a GPS-supported inertial navigation, a radar altimeter and an imaging IR seeker head, the TAURUS is designed for precision strike. To achieve the maximum effect against the target, the TAURUS utilises the MEPHISTO tandem warhead system (with distance sensor, shaped charge, penetrator and PIMPF intelligent detonator system). It is designed to combat a wide range of targets, including hard, deeply buried targets, enabling the neutralisation of high value point and area targets whilst avoiding collateral damage and without exposing launch aircraft and crews to enemy air defences. The German Luftwaffe deploys the TAURUS KEPD 350 precision standoff guided missile system on the Tornado IDS. The Spanish Air Force uses it to arm its EF-18 aircraft. All missiles were delivered on schedule to the Spanish Air Force by August 2010. Future development enhancements to this system are possible in such areas as inflight control, anti-ship operations, integration within a network enabled environment and integration onto the Eurofighter Typhoon.
The integration of this modular designed missile started in 2004 at the MBDA site in Schrobenhausen. In addition to the supply of the 600 missiles, the 2002 contract also included the preparation for and the carrying out of series production as well as logistics elements such as the supply of spare-parts sets and equipment for munitions monitoring;

La livraison de ce 600ème missile achève l’exécution, parfaitement réussie, de la commande de série.

“Le TAURUS KEPD 350 illustre très bien la performance de l’industrie allemande”, a souligné le Brigadier-Général Hermann Muntz, Directeur adjoint du Commandement des Systèmes d’Armes de la Luftwaffe et officier chargé des approvisionnements le plus haut gradé de la Luftwaffe. “Avec ce système, la Luftwaffe dispose à présent d’un des missiles guidés les plus modernes et les plus performants pour détruire des cibles fortifiées tout en restant à distance de sécurité. Pour nous, la livraison de ce 600ème missile ne sonne pas la fin de l’épisode TAURUS. Nous devons en effet nous adapter continuellement à l’évolution des scénarios de mission et envisager continuellement de nouveaux développements”.
Le TAURUS KEPD 350 est considéré comme l’un des missiles guidés pouvant être lancés à distance de sécurité les plus modernes au monde. Avec son système de navigation Tri-Tec, constitué d’un système de navigation inertielle avec GPS, d’un altimètre radar et d’un autodirecteur d’imagerie à infrarouge, le TAURUS a été conçu pour effectuer des frappes de précision. Pour garantir un effet maximal sur la cible, le TAURUS utilise le système de double charge militaire MEPHISTO (avec capteur de distance, charge creuse, pénétrateur et système de détonateur intelligent PIMPF). Le missile est conçu pour traiter un large spectre d’objectifs, dont les cibles dures enfouies en profondeur, et pour pouvoir ainsi neutraliser des objectifs de point ou de zone de haute valeur, tout en évitant de provoquer des dommages collatéraux et d’exposer l’avion lanceur et son équipage à la défense anti-aérienne ennemie. La Luftwaffe allemande déploie le système de missile guidé TAURUS KEPD 350, lançable à distance de sécurité, sur l’IDS Tornado. L’armée de l’air espagnole l’utilise quant à elle pour armer ses EF-18. Tous ses missiles lui ont d’ailleurs été livrés dans les délais prévus, jusqu’en août 2010.De nouvelles améliorations pourraient ultérieurement être apportées à ce système, dans différents domaines, tels que la commande en vol, les opérations antinavires, l’intégration à un environnement en réseau et l’intégration à l’Eurofighter Typhoon.
L’intégration de ce missile de conception modulaire a débuté en 2004 sur le site MBDA de Schrobenhausen. En plus de la livraison des 600 missiles, le contrat de 2002 prévoyait la préparation et la conduite de la production en série, ainsi que certains aspects logistiques tels que la fourniture des rechanges et équipements nécessaires au suivi des munitions.

GmbH (MBDA Deutschland) und Saab Dynamics – hat im November den 600. Flugkörper an das Bundesamt für Wehrtechnik und Beschaffung (BWB) übergeben. Mit der Auslieferung des 600. Flugkörpers wurde der Serienauftrag für die Deutsche Luftwaffe erfolgreich abgeschlossen.

TAURUS KEPD 350 gilt als eines der modernsten Abstandslenkflugkörpersysteme weltweit. Durch das Tri-Tec Navigationssystem, bestehend aus einer GPS gestützten Inertial-Navigation, einem Radar-Höhenmesser und einem abbildendem IR-Suchkopf ist der TAURUS in der Lage, Ziele präzise anzufliegen. Um maximale Wirkung im Ziel zu erreichen stützt sich TAURUS auf das multifunktionelle Tandemwirksystem MEPHISTO (mit Abstandssensor, Vorhohlladung, Penetrator und intelligentem Zündsystem PIMPF). Er ist zur Bekämpfung verschiedenartiger Ziele ausgelegt, wie
verbunkerte Führungsgefechtsstände, Fernmeldezentren, Versorgungseinrichtungen, Brücken, Flugzeuge am Boden, Flugplatzinfrastruktur oder Luftverteidigungsstellungen. Das Präzisions-Abstandslenkflugkörpersystem TAURUS KEPD 350 wird bei der Deutschen Luftwaffe am Tornado IDS eingesetzt. Die spanische Luftwaffe setzt den Flugkörper zur Bewaffnung der EF-18 ein. Auch diese Flugkörper wurden bis August 2010 planmäßig an die spanische Luftwaffe ausgeliefert.
Zukünftige Weiterentwicklungen des Systems könnten u.a. im Bereich der Flugführung, der Seezielbekämpfung, der Einbindung in die vernetzte Operationsführung sowie der Integration an den Eurofighter erfolgen.
Die Integration des modular aufgebauten Flugkörpers startete 2004 am Standort der MBDA Deutschland in Schrobenhausen. Der Produktionsauftrag umfasste neben der Serienüberleitung ab 2002 und der Lieferung von Teilesätzen für die Munitionsüberwachung die Lieferung von 600 Flugkörpern.

La consegna del 600° esemplare segna la conclusione di successo di una serie di ordini.

“TAURUS KEPD 350 è un esempio di successo a livello di performance ottenuto dall’industria” ha sottolineato il brigadiere generale Hermann Muntz, Vice Capo del comando dei sistemi d’arma della Luftwaffe e ufficiale di alto rango responsabile degli approvvigionamenti della Luftwaffe. “Con questo sistema, la Luftwaffe tedesca ha a disposizione uno dei più moderni ed efficaci missili guidati per colpire bersagli fortificati da una distanza di sicurezza. Per noi, la consegna del seicentesimo missile non segna il termine della storia di TAURUS. Abbiamo l’esigenza di affrontare il continuo mutamento degli scenari di missione e di prendere in considerazione futuri sviluppi”.
Il TAURUS KEPD 350 è considerato uno dei più moderni sistemi missilistici guidati a lungo raggio a livello mondiale. Grazie al sistema di navigazione Tri-Tec, composto da un dispositivo di navigazione inerziale assistito da GPS, un altimetro radar e una testa autocercante con immagine IR, TAURUS è stato progettato per attacchi di precisione.
Per ottenere il massimo effetto contro il bersaglio, il TAURUS utilizza il sistema con testa di guerra in tandem MEPHISTO (con sensore di distanza, carica cava, penetratore e sistema di detonazione intelligente PIMPF). Il missile, appositamente progettato per colpire un’ampia serie di bersagli, tra cui bunker e bersagli interrati, consente di neutralizzare bersagli areali e terrestri di grande importanza, evitando allo stesso tempo danni collaterali e senza esporre i velivoli di lancio e gli equipaggi alle difese aeree nemiche. La Luftwaffe tedesca utilizza il sistema missilistico guidato standoff di precisione TAURUS KEPD 350 sui Tornado IDS. L’aeronautica militare spagnola utilizza questo sistema sulle unità aeree EF-18. La consegna all’aeronautica militare spagnola è stata concluso nel mese di agosto 2010, come previsto dalla pianificazione. Miglioramenti futuri di questo sistema verranno sviluppati in aree quali il controllo in volo, operazioni antinave, integrazione in un ambiente netcentrico e integrazione in Eurofighter Typhoon.
L’integrazione di questo missile modulare è iniziata nel 2004 presso la sede di MBDA a Schrobenhausen. Oltre alla fornitura dei seicento missili, il contratto del 2002 prevedeva la preparazione e la realizzazione di elementi prodotti in serie nonché elementi logistici, quali set di pezzi di ricambio e apparecchiature per il monitoraggio delle munizioni.
