MBDA completes acquisition of BAYERN-CHEMIE/PROTAC
Following its approval by the national and international regulatory bodies, the agreement concluded between MBDA, EADS and Thales regarding the purchase of Bayern-Chemie/Protac came into effect on 31st August 2007. With the associated legal transfer of its shares, Bayern-Chemie/Protac is now a fully owned (100%) subsidiary of LFK GmbH / MBDA Deutschland.
Bayern-Chemie/Protac has an annual turnover of approximately € 50 million and a workforce of about 180 employees at Bayern-Chemie in Germany (Aschau am Inn) and about 90 employees at Protac in France (La Ferté Saint-Aubin). The company’s business activities cover the development and manufacture of a large number of missile propulsion systems. Of special note is the ramjet engine developed by Bayern-Chemie/Protac for the METEOR beyond visual range (BVR) air launched guided missile system. METEOR, capable of accelerating to above Mach 3 and assuring pilot air superiority in all scenarios, is being developed for the air forces of six European nations. Bayern-Chemie/Protac’s main customers are MBDA and the German Federal Office of Defence Technology and Procurement (BWB).

MBDA has now positioned itself as a global leader in the field of solid fuel ramjet engines while at the same time gaining a significant competitive advantage in the strongly contested international market for guided missile systems”.Werner Kaltenegger, Managing Director of MBDA Deutschland, added: “With the purchase of Bayern-Chemie by LFK GmbH it has been possible to keep industrial core competencies in the field of high-performance rocket propulsion in Germany and also continue to meet the future requirements of the German customer in this area.Furthermore, the purchase also paves the way for a successful continuation of the METEOR programme by contributing Bayern-Chemie’s unique ramjet engine technology”.
Après l’approbation par les autorités de compétences nationales et internationales, l’accord conclu entre MBDA, EADS et Thales sur l’achat de Bayern-Chemie/Protac est entré en vigueur au 31 Août 2007. Avec le transfert légal de ses actions lié à cet accord, Bayern-Chemie/Protac est désormais détenu à 100% par LFK GmbH/MBDA Deutschland.
Bayern-Chemie/Protac a un chiffre d’affaires d’environ 50 millions d’€ et un effectif de 180 employés chez Bayern-Chemie en Allemagne (à Aschau sur l’Inn) et 90 autres chez Protac en France (à La Ferté Saint-Aubin). Les activités de la société recouvrent le développement et la production d’une vaste gamme de systèmes de propulsion de missiles, en particulier le statoréacteur développé par Bayern-Chemie/Protac pour le système de missile air-air au-delà de la portée visuelle (BVRAAM) METEOR. Le METEOR, capable de dépasser Mach 3 et de garantir au pilote la supériorité aérienne dans tous les cas de figure, est développé pour les armées de l’air de six pays européens. Les principaux clients de Bayern-Chemie/Protac’s sont MBDA et l’Office fédéral allemand pour l’achat et la technologie de défense (BWB).

De plus, cet achat consolide la réussite du développement du METEOR par la contribution de la technologie unique de statoréacteur de Bayern-Chemie ».
Das europäische Lenkflugkörpersystemhaus MBDA hat mit EADS und Thales eine Vereinbarung über den Kauf von Bayern-Chemie/Protac, dem deutschen Hersteller von Antriebssystemen für Lenkflugkörper, geschlossen. Diese Vereinbarung bedarf nun der Zustimmung verschiedener Behörden.
Bayern-Chemie/Protac ist heute ein Gemeinschaftsunternehmen von EADS Deutschland GmbH (50 %) und Thales S.A. (50 %). MBDA, vertreten durch MBDA Deutschland/LFK-Lenkflugkörpersysteme GmbH (LFK), beabsichtigt den Erwerb der EADS- und Thales-Anteile. Nach Genehmigung durch die zuständigen Aufsichtsbehörden wird Bayern-Chemie/Protac eine Tochtergesellschaft (100 %) von LFK sein.
Bayern-Chemie/Protac realisiert einen Jahresumsatz von ca. 50 Millionen Euro und beschäftigt ca. 180 Mitarbeiter bei Bayern-Chemie in Deutschland (Aschau am Inn) und ca. 90 Mitarbeiter bei Protac in Frankreich (La Ferté Saint Aubin). Das Unternehmen entwickelt und fertigt eine Reihe von Flugkörper-Antriebssystemen. Insbesondere durch das von Bayern-Chemie/Protac entwickelte Staustrahltriebwerk ist das von sechs Nationen neu entwickelte, außerhalb der optischen Reichweite (Beyond Visual Range – BVR) operierende Lenkflugkörpersystem Meteor in der Lage, auf eine Geschwindigkeit von über 3 Mach zu beschleunigen und dem Piloten in allen Szenarien Luftüberlegenheit zu garantieren. MBDA und das Bundesamt für Wehrtechnik und Beschaffung (BWB) sind die Hauptkunden von Bayern-Chemie/Protac.
