Another success for MBDA’s Teseo MK2/A
On 19th November 2007, the final qualification launch of Teseo MK2/A was successfully carried out, representing a major milestone in this anti-ship missile’s development programme.
Teseo MK2/A was launched from the Italian Navy ship Luigi Durand De La Penne. In simulating a scenario confined to a limited area with four-way points and four turns (two of which were virtually 180°), the launch characteristics were particularly complex and demanding. The test parameters also called for the re-vectoring of the target and the subsequent updating of the missile seeker’s search logic. The timing and area parameters of the re-vectoring were calculated automatically by the launch system’s mission planning.
Teseo MK2/A flew a distance of approximately 120km which was covered in 415 seconds. The missile followed its planned sea-skimming trajectory with the maximum of precision, arriving at its approach phase to the target at an angle of only 3°. A direct hit was registered against the target, with impact occurring at the lowest planned altitude at the end of the homing phase.
The Italian Navy was involved in the test with Admiral Giuseppe Lertora, who witnessed the launch proceedings, expressing his appreciation for the excellent work carried out by MBDA Italia. Fabrizio Giulianini, Managing Director and CEO of MBDA Italia said: “With this launch we have successfully completed the qualification phase of this weapon system, a system which represents an important part of our history and technological heritage. The conclusion of this campaign will bring us some very interesting commercial opportunities, not only in our domestic market but especially in our export market. The Teseo/Otomat missile already has a significant installed base of over 1000 missiles that have been sold or are currently in service with navies across the world”.
As part of its modernization programme, Teseo MK2/A (which will be marketed as Otomat MK2 Block IV on the export market) has had all its discovery/tracking and navigation components completely digitalized. This will allow Teseo MK2/A to confront naval threats not only in open water (blue water) but also in littoral warfare situations (brown water) that are more common than the present asymmetric conflicts.
Le 19 novembre 2007, le dernier tir de qualification du Teseo MK2/A a été réalisé avec succès, ce qui représente une étape majeure dans le programme de développement de missile antinavire.
Le Teseo MK2/A a été lancé depuis le navire italien Luigi Durand De La Penne. La séquence de tir, particulièrement contraignante et exigeante, a simulé un scénario confiné dans une zone étroite avec un itinéraire à quatre points et quatre virages (dont deux pratiquement à 180°).
Le scenario incluait une re-vectorisation de la cible entrainant une reconfiguration des paramètres de recherche de l’autodirecteur. Ceux-ci ont été calculés automatiquement par le système de planification de mission du système lancement.
Le missile a parcouru une distance de près de 120 km en 415 secondes, suivant une trajectoire au ras de l’eau avec une précision maximale, pour arriver sur la cible dans sa phase d’approche avec un angle de seulement 3°. Un impact direct sur cible a été enregistré, l’impact a eu lieu au point le plus bas planifié.
La Marine italienne a participé à l’essai en la présence de l’amiral Giuseppe Lertora, qui a assisté aux procédures d’exécution du tir et exprimé son appréciation de l’excellent travail réalisé par MBDA Italia. Fabrizio Giulianini, Managing Director et CEO de MBDA Italia, a déclaré : « avec ce tir nous avons achevé avec succès la phase de qualification de ce système d’arme, qui représente une étape importante dans notre histoire et dans notre héritage technologique. La conclusion de cette campagne de tir va nous ouvrir des opportunités commerciales très importantes, pas seulement sur notre marché domestique mais particulièrement sur celui de l’export. Le missile Teseo/Otomat a déjà une base acquise de plus de mille missiles vendus ou actuellement en service dans des marines nationales à travers le monde ».
Dans le cadre de son programme de modernisation, le Teseo MK2/A (qui sera commercialisé sous le nom d’Otomat MK2 Block IV à l’export) a vu l’ensemble de ses composants de détection/pistage et de navigation totalement numérisés. Cela permettra au Teseo MK2/A de faire face à des menaces navales non pas seulement en pleine mer (blue water) mais également dans des situations de combat littoral (brown water) qui sont plus fréquentes dans les combats asymétriques.
Am 19. November 2007 wurde die Qualifikation des neuen Anti-Schiff-Flugkörpers Teseo MK2/A mit einem Schuss im Rahmen des Entwicklungsprogramms erfolgreich abgeschlossen.
Teseo MK2/A wurde von der „Luigi Durand De La Penne“ der italienischen Marine gestartet. Das vorgegebene Szenario war mit vier Wegepunkten und vier Kurven (inklusive zweier 180° Turns) besonders komplex und stellte hohe Anforderungen an den Flugkörper.
Die Test-Vorgaben verlangten aucheine Neuausrichtung auf das Ziel mit anschließender Aktualisierung der Suchkopflogik. Die Zeit-und Ortsparameter für die Neuausrichtung wurden automatisch vom Missionsplanungssystem des Startgeräts errechnet.
Teseo MK2/A flog ungefähr 120 km in415 Sekunden. Der Flugkörper folgte seinem geplanten Flugpfad mit höchster Genauigkeit und näherte sich dem Ziel in einem Winkel von nur 3 Grad. Am Ende erfolgte ein Direkttreffer in sehr geringer Höhe.
Am Test nahm für die italienische Marine Admiral Giuseppe Lertora teil. Er zeigte sich sehr beeindruckt von den von MBDA Italien geleisteten Arbeiten. Fabrizio Giulianini, Managing Director und CEO von MBDA Italien sagte: “Mit diesem Schuss haben wir die Qualifikationsphase dieses Waffensystems, das einen wichtigen Teilunserer Geschichte darstellt, erfolgreich abgeschlossen. Der Abschlussder Kampagne eröffnet uns einige sehr interessante wirtschaftliche Möglichkeiten, nicht nur national, sondern besonders auch im Export. Der Teseo/Otomat Lenkflugkörper hat mit über 1000 verkauften und weltweit in Dienst gestellten Flugkörpern ein bedeutendes Potenzial.”
Im Rahmen des Modernisierungsprogramms von Teseo MK2/A (der im Export als Otomat MK2 Block IV angeboten wird) wurden alle Komponenten zur Zielauffassung, Zielverfolgung und Navigation digitalisiert. Dies ermöglicht den Einsatz von Teseo MK2/A nicht nur gegen Bedrohungen auf offener See, sondern auch in Küstennähe.

Il tema di tiro, effettuato da bordo di nave Luigi Durand De La Penne della Marina Militare Italiana, era particolarmente complesso in quanto simulava uno scenario in acque ristrette con 4 way-points che implicavano altrettante virate, due delle quali di quasi 180°.
I parametri temporali e spaziali del rivettoramento erano calcolati automaticamente dal mission planning del sistema di lancio. La distanza complessiva percorsa dal missile è stata di circa 120 Km ed il tempo di volo è stato di 415 secondi.
Il missile ha eseguito con estrema precisione la traiettoria pianificata a quota sea-skimming, arrivando alla scoperta del bersaglio con un angolo di sguardo di appena 3°. L’impatto diretto è avvenuto alla quota minima programmata al termine della fase homing.
Il lancio è stato seguito con vivo interesse e partecipazione da parte della Marina Militare Italiana e al termine delle operazioni l’amm. di Squadra Giuseppe Lertora, che era presente a bordo appositamente per assistere al lancio, ha espresso il più vivo apprezzamento per l’ottimo lavoro svolto da MBDA Italia. Fabrizio Giulianini, amministratore delegato e direttore generale di MBDA Italia per l’occasione ha dichiarato “con questo lancio si completa con successo la qualifica di questo sistema d’arma che rappresenta un pezzo importante della nostra storia e del nostro patrimonio tecnologico. Con la fine di questa campagna, pertanto, si aprono interessanti prospettive commerciali per questo missile non solo verso il mercato domestico ma soprattutto verso quello dell’export. Il Teseo/Otomat – ha continuato Giulianini – può infatti contare su un installato di primaria importanza con oltre 1000 missili venduti ed in servizio nelle marine di tutto il mondo”.
Il Teseo MK2/A è un missile che nel suo programma di ammodernamento è stato completamente digitalizzato in tutte le sue componenti di scoperta/tracking e navigazione: Tutto ciò consentirà al Teseo MK2/A di poter affrontare le minacce navali non solo in acque aperte (blue water) ma anche in situazioni di littoral warfare (brown water) che sono più tipiche degli attuali conflitti assimetrici.
