AKERON, the new unique family of fifth-generation combat weapons
MBDA presents AKERON, a unique family of fifth-generation tactical combat missiles, a quantum leap from the third and fourth generation weapons currently available on the market. This family includes the MMP and MHT missiles, now renamed AKERON MP and AKERON LP respectively.
With AKERON, MBDA is now offering a family of missiles that can adapt to the needs of collaborative tactical combat.
Today’s combat units operate in a variety of complex environments. These can be urban areas, open countryside, deserts or mountains, during the day or at night; and can also feature a combination and/or variety of forces, both allied and adversary. To respond to the wide range of threats they face, operators must be equipped with a versatile and precise capability enabling them to destroy fixed or mobile land targets – including the latest-generation tanks and light combat vehicles – but also neutralize dismounted adversaries or adversaries in hardened or defensive fighting positions. All whilst minimizing the risk of collateral damage. Operators also need to be protected during engagements with simplicity of implementation, the capacity to “fire and forget” or engage a target while remaining hidden from sight.
Designed for these operational realities, the AKERON family of missiles incorporates the latest technologies in terms of high-resolution multi-band imagers, multi-effect warheads (anti-tank, anti-infrastructure, anti-personnel), data links, and multi-mode guidance algorithms based on AI techniques. All ensuring robust and precise guidance at any distance, in all conditions. Each has their own specifications in order to be perfectly adapted to the missions of the combat units and platforms using them.
Operators thus have the broadest spectrum of tactical options to deal with their targets, thanks to the many possible modes of engagement. These include ‘fire and forget’, human-in-the-loop, locking the target before firing (LOBL), or locking on after firing (LOAL), which facilitates firing beyond line of sight (BLOS).
The missiles of the AKERON family meet current and future operational needs for dismounted combat as well as from land, air (helicopter, UAV) and even naval platforms. They are also ideal for integration into the digital environment of the battlefield, and suited for collaborative combat.

Aujourd’hui, les unités de combat au contact doivent opérer dans une grande variété d’environnements complexes. Il peut en effet s’agir de zones urbaines, désertiques ou montagneuses, et ce de jour comme de nuit. Pour répondre à la forte diversité des menaces auxquelles elles font face, elles doivent être dotées d’une capacité d’agression polyvalente et précise permettant de détruire des cibles terrestres, fixes ou mobiles dont des chars de dernière génération, des véhicules légers, mais également neutraliser du personnel débarqué ou abrité dans des postes de défense bâtis ou de circonstance tout en minimisant le risque de dommages collatéraux et en garantissant la sauvegarde des opérateurs dans les phases d’engagement grâce à sa simplicité de mise en œuvre ainsi qu’à ses capacités « tire et oublie » ou d’engager une cible en restant masqué.
Conçus pour les mêmes réalités opérationnelles, les missiles AKERON intègrent les dernières technologies en terme d’imageurs multi bandes à haute résolution, de charge militaire multi effets (anti char, anti infrastructure, anti personnel), d’algorithmes de guidage multimodes basés sur des techniques IA, assurant, dans toutes conditions, un guidage robuste et précis à toute distance, et de liaisons de données. Ils sont dotés de spécificités en propre, afin d’être parfaitement adaptés aux missions de leurs armes.
Les opérateurs ont ainsi le plus large spectre d’options tactiques pour traiter leur menace, grâce aux nombreux modes d’engagement possibles, allant du tir et oublie à l’homme dans la boucle, de la possibilité d’accrochage de la cible avant tir (LOBL), ou accrochage en vol (LOAL) en particulier pour le tir au-delà de la vue directe.
Les missiles de la famille AKERON répondent aux besoins opérationnels actuels et futurs, tant pour le combat débarqué que depuis des plateformes terrestres, aéronautiques (hélicoptère, drone) ou encore navales et s’intègrent idéalement dans l’environnement numérique du champ de bataille et aux exigences du combat collaboratif.

Per rispondere all’ampia gamma di minacce da affrontare, gli operatori devono essere dotati di una capacità versatile e precisa che consenta loro di distruggere obiettivi terrestri fissi o mobili, tra cui carri armati e veicoli da combattimento leggeri di ultima generazione, ma anche di neutralizzare avversari appiedati o avversari in posizioni di combattimento rinforzate o difensive; tutto ciò riducendo allo stesso tempo al minimo il rischio di danni collaterali. Gli operatori dispongono quindi dello spettro più ampio di opzioni tattiche per affrontare la minaccia, grazie alle numerose modalità di ingaggio possibili, che includono capacità di “fire and forget”, human-in-the-loop, aggancio del bersaglio prima del lancio (LOBL) o aggancio dopo il lancio (LOAL), in modo da agevolare il lancio BLOS (Beyond Line of Sight).
