With SKY WARDEN, MBDA offers an innovative and comprehensive solution to address the challenges posed by new aerial threats such as drones. This one-of-a-kind anti-drone system combines cutting-edge technologies, unprecedented flexibility, and the ability to continuously evolve. With SKY WARDEN, MBDA provides robust, multi-layered pro-tection tailored to the specific needs of both civilian environments in pea-cetime and military environments in wartime.
Thanks to its modularity and the use of various types of effectors, SKY WARDEN offers solutions perfectly adapted to the threat and operatio-nal context, ensuring total control over effects, particularly regarding the
management of potential collateral effect. The system can be used in configurations tailored to the protection of sensi-tive sites—such as port and airport infrastructure, critical infrastructure like power plants—border protection, or the pro-tection of international events in dense urban environments. The system’s effectiveness is also measured by its minimal impact on site operations.
Thanks to the integration of numerous sensors and its AI-based command and control system, SKY WARDEN also provides extremely reliable detection and identification capabilities, enabling analysis and response in all situations, par-ticularly in urban environments where airspace is complex. The system thus ensures optimal protection against a wide variety of drones, ranging from small remote-controlled models to larger aircraft, within a 7-kilometer radius. Its jamming system, combined with drone-interceptor technologies such as the Hit-to-Kill drone developed by MBDA, enables the system to counter drones that may be operated for intelligence gathering or as part of subversive operations ranging from terrorism to acts of sabotage. Finally, the system offers rapid on-site integration and deployment capabilities, parti-cularly due to its small footprint. SKY WARDEN was designed to minimize the cognitive load on operators, allowing it to be operated by non-specialized personnel.
In October 2025, SKY WARDEN demonstrated its full effectiveness during an exercise organized by the European Border and Coast Guard Agency (Frontex) to evaluate, under real-world conditions, solutions for countering the use of drones for illegal purposes at the European Union’s borders. The SKY WARDEN system was named “the most effective system for protecting EU borders” (Frontex C-UAS Award 2025).
MBDA thus offers its customers a mature SKY WARDEN system, capable of being deployed in both peacetime and wartime, with a combat-ready solution.
In France, the revision of the legal framework related to the use of anti-drone measures on national territory paves the way for enhanced protection of “Critical Infrastructure Operators” against drones, for which the SKY WARDEN system is a solution fully compatible with the French SGDSN requirements.
This civil application is also available for SEA WARDEN, the naval version of the system.
