About JFS-M
A New Missile Designed to Boost Artillery Capacities
Current conflicts have highlighted the need to adapt conventional artillery in order to face new types of threats, particularly when forces face advanced Suppression of Enemy Air Defence capabilities and intense activity across the electromagnetic spectrum.
In complex and urban environments, achieving precise effects with existing systems remains challenging. Against this backdrop, MBDA is developing the Joint Fire Support Missile (JFS-M), an intelligent guided missile designed to expand artillery effectiveness across the battlefield.
Conceived as a solution for the future indirect fire system of the German Armed Forces, the JFS-M brings a new deep-strike dimension to land operations while remaining relevant for short- and medium-range engagements.
JFS-M: Precision, Range and Multi-Mission Performance
The JFS-M is designed for operations from 1 to 300+ km, offering commanders a highly flexible response across short, medium and extended ranges. Suitable for Multiple Launch Rocket System (MLRS) launchers and wheeled vehicles, it can also operate as a stand-alone solution and be integrated into current and future platforms, including systems such as MARS II. Different platforms can be configured to carry a mixed armament comprising this system alongside other types of ammunition.
The JFS-M’s high subsonic speed, adjustable low-level flight trajectory, optimized Radar Cross Section and terrain-adapted flight path make it difficult to detect and intercept. The missile is equipped with a robust GNSS and image-based navigation for highest precision and sustainability. While supporting missile-to-missile and platform-to-missile datalink, the JFS-M is designed for networked operations.
Its scalable effect warhead and modular variable payload options enable precision engagement of point and small-area targets, while also supporting reconnaissance, electronic warfare and training missions.
MBDA’s Agility in Delivering Fast, Adaptable Responses to Armed Forces’ Evolving Needs
The JFS-M’s rapid development reflects MBDA’s agility in addressing the evolving requirements of modern armed forces. As the threat landscape changes at speed, armed forces require solutions that can be quickly deployed, integrated easily and adapted to multiple mission profiles.
MBDA’s approach combines rapid deployment, platform flexibility and scalable effects to match operational realities. By developing a missile that can support long-range land strikes, cruise missile-like deep-strike missions and immediate artillery needs, MBDA demonstrates its capabilities to respond with speed, relevance and innovation.
The JFS-M is therefore a the best example of MBDA’s ability to anticipate change and deliver solutions aligned with current and future operational demands.
