About CAMM Family
CAMM FAMILY OPTIMISED MODULARITY FOR MAXIMUM OPERATIONAL FLEXIBILITY
The CAMM (Common Anti-air Modular Missile) family has been designed to defeat extremely complex airborne threats both on land and at sea. These threats are typified by increasingly higher speeds, rapid evasive manoeuvres, ever-lower signatures and increasingly advanced countermeasures.
Designed, developed and delivered to defend and deter
The CAMM family of missiles originated from a need to develop a new generation point and local area air defence solution, capable of providing 360° protection against the most complex airborne threats, including saturation attacks.
As well as performance criteria, the requirement also called for a value for money solution, one common modular missile capable of providing both Ground and Naval Based Air Defence (GBAD and NBAD).
As a result, CAMM and the longer-range missile CAMM-ER, have been designed specifically from original concept as surface-to-air missiles; they are not evolutions of existing air-to-air missiles. Featuring Soft Vertical Launch technology which minimises launch signature, CAMM has already been delivered to customers for both land and naval applications.
In the NBAD domain, MBDA offers a choice of Weapon Systems for integration to Naval Combat Management Systems (CMS). Sea Ceptor provides a short to medium range state-of-the-art intelligent weapon system that has been developed with, and fielded for, the Royal Navy. Utilising the extended range variant, CAMM-ER, Albatros New Generation or Albatros NG (as it is known) provides a medium range maritime air defence capability. Thanks to the CAMM family’s active radar seeker architecture, both missile variants can operate with any modern 3D naval surveillance radar.
For GBAD customers, MBDA offers EMADS (Enhanced Modular Air Defence Solutions) utilising the CAMM and CAMM-ER as the basis of a flexible and modular system capable of being integrated with a wide range of radars and vehicles.
MBDA works with the customer to offer multiple procurement options:
- Turnkey solution with the supply of a fully integrated and networked air defence system
- Cost effective and easy integration within the customer’s existing or planned wider battlespace air defence network. The GBAD launcher’s C2 system integrates easily into a wider BMC4I. The NBAD launcher’s C2 system integrates easily into the ship’s CMS
- Efficient and effective logistics and maintenance support designed to specific customer requirements to enable through-life cost savings
