Act for social sustainability and benefits for people

At MBDA, our people are our most important asset, and their health, safety and wellbeing is our top priority. We provide safe and inclusive workplaces and ensure the wellbeing of all our employees, visitors and service providers.

Social

MBDA supports local communities through the secure, high quality jobs and apprenticeships we provide directly to individuals, and also through supply chain partners with whom we do business. We and our people contribute to charitable causes through donations and volunteering.

Foster inclusive leadership and culture

The values and behaviours we stand by define how effectively we all work together and how successful we will be. We’ve defined an MBDA “leadership model” to guide our leaders in demonstrating consistently high values and behaviours, to achieve a culture that supports business change and improvement.

Built in line with our five Corporate Values (Commitment, Integrity, Innovation, Passion, Team Spirit) our leadership model encourages our leaders to develop their behaviour in five ways:

  • Take Ownership
  • Build Trust
  • Promote Change
  • Inspire Others
  • Encourage Collaboration

Improve Safety at Work

We are enhancing our prevention and analysis of workplace accidents. By promoting a work safety culture among all our team members, strengthening our audits and inspections, and developing more detailed KPIs to enrich our work safety data, we aim to keep the number of reportable accidents per 1,000 employees below 2.0 on average over a 3-year period.

Learning and development for everyone

Training is essential to cultivate the skills of tomorrow. As part of a group-level skills framework, currently over 90% of our team members receive training each year – a trend we intend to continue. We want to continuously improve the quality of the training we offer, and develop innovative and digital learning formats. Our ambition is to ensure that even more members of our team have a development plan defined and discussed with their line managers during their annual review.

Expand Diversity and Inclusion

At MBDA, we recognise the power of equality, diversity and inclusion and celebrate how it enriches our business and our community. It matters to us that everyone’s contribution is valued. Employing people from a wide range of backgrounds and experiences brings fresh perspectives, new opportunities and strengthens our performance as a company. We have established an Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (ED&I) steering committee to develop an inclusive culture.

  • MBDA in France held an event called “Duo Day” to promote the inclusion of people with disabilities in the workforce through cohesion and collaboration

Outreach to charities and communities

MBDA and our colleagues support our local communities through charitable contributions, volunteering and providing science, technology and maths (STEM) support to young people. Providing our people with the opportunity to do this is an important part of MBDA’s employee value proposition.

In Italy: MBDA held sessions for around 60 students from technical institutes, allowing them to discover opportunities in STEM careers. Seniores Group celebrates and supports older colleagues and delivers scholarships to children who have distinguished themselves in their academic career.

In the UK: MBDA contributed over £400,000 to charities, including £250,000 raised from the annual charity dinner to benefit armed forces charities as well as local charities such as Bolton Hospice and Help Bristol’s Homeless.

In Germany: MBDA featured a Christmas wish tree bearing stars with wishes from disadvantaged individuals that employees could pick and fulfil independently.

In France: MBDA opened its doors to 12 high school girls from the Lycée Montesquieu du Plessis-Robinson in support of the Elles Bougent association, aiming to promote access to engineering careers for young women.
