Manage and protect our environment
We’re limiting our environmental impact to protect our planet and help address climate change.

Carbon Neutrality by 2050
In line with European regulations, we are committed to be carbon neutral by 2050. To achieve this, we’re implanting a Roadmap structured around 4 pillars:
- Promote renewable energies to lower carbon footprint
- Optimise and monitor energy efficiency
- Minimise our environmental impact
- Develop carbon sinks to offset carbon emissions

Renewable Energies and optimising our Energy Efficiency
From our infrastructure to data centres, we are both increasing our use of renewable and low carbon energies in our energy mix, and improving our energy efficiency. We’re achieving this through energy optimisation programmes, better monitoring, site upgrades and onsite energy production.
In Italy: A target has been set to reduce energy consumption by 15% (-2,590.95 MWh/year) by taking measures such as switching to using more energy-efficient lamps at its La Spezia site and more efficient refrigerant gases at its Fusaro site.
In France : At Le Plessis Robinson site, MBDA installed a new heat pump system to manage its energy consumption and comply with agreements made during their purchase of the TERRA building on site. The same heat pumps will be installed across the site to have a single management system.
In the UK : We published the MBDA UK Carbon Reduction Plan 2023, including progress towards the Group Carbon Neutrality 2050 Roadmap and our commitment to reach net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. In addition, a five-year Energy Optimisation Programme was begun with MBDA UK's Facilities Management provider ISS to save 9 GWh in onsite energy consumption.

Prevent and Manage Waste
We apply the waste hierarchy and are defining implementing an effective waste management programme to improve recycling of non-industrial waste, increase recycling of hazardous and non-hazardous industrial waste and increase biowaste recovery. When our products reach the end of their lifecycle, MBDA offers a service for their safe decommissioning.
100% of the waste is sorted.
Protect and make better use of our resources
We’re working to make better use of resources and to protect and enhance biodiversity around our sites, by:
- Developing a comprehensive water and biodiversity action plans;
- Managing compliance with REACH regulations;
- Investing in R&D to improve the environmental performance of materials and processes, and using less of them through, for example, additive manufacturing;
- Developing low-carbon transport practices.
In Germany: MBDA’s Bayern-Chemie site installed six beehives, home to around 150,000 bees. The honey extracted in 2023 had slightly spicy notes and a subtle sweetness.
In France: In Bourges, MBDA carried out various initiatives to manage water cycles during industrial activities at production sites, resulting in greater operational efficiency, reduced impact on groundwater, and a gain of 6,000 cubic metres per year.
