To address these challenges, MBDA is developing a new generation of effectors, designed for cost-effective and high precision attacks. Among these innovations, MBDA’s latest loitering munition, featuring an innovative rhomboidal architecture, is designed to high manoeuvrability to track and neutralise moving threats.

A DIAMOND SHAPED Architecture Designed for Range and Manoeuvrability

At the core of this innovation lies a breakthrough aerodynamic concept: the DIAMOND SHAPED, or rhomboidal, wing. The DIAMOND SHAPED architecture delivers exceptional aerodynamic efficiency, combining high speed, outstanding manoeuvrability, stability and low drag. It also ensures remarkable strike precision against both land and maritime targets.

Light and compact, the solution only weighs 8 kg, offering a range of up to 50 km and 45 minutes of operating time, even in GNSS-denied environments. Its rapid deployment capability is enhanced by automatic wings, unfolding at launch from a tube. Fully operational day and night, in rain or dust, and easy to use, missions can be pre-programmed to reach the loitering area, enabling a “click-and-forget” capability for autonomous terminal guidance, against agile and moving targets.

Equipped with embedded artificial intelligence, MBDA’s DIAMOND SHAPED loitering munition enables autonomous flight, collaborative engagement and swarming capabilities at speeds of up to 270km/h. Its modular payload and all-purpose warhead allow adaptation to diverse mission profiles. Designed for multi-platform use, it can be deployed by infantry, integrated onto vehicles, naval platforms or helicopters. Safety is ensured by an electronic reversible arming unit, alongside the option for last-second mission cancellation.
