Our role is to develop and supply the most relevant systems so that the Italian Armed Forces can accomplish its operational missions at the highest level of performance. We support them in protecting national security and strategic independence.

To fulfil this mission, MBDA relies on two pillars:

• Sovereignty. Because we exist to protect nations and their citizens, we must produce and supply the necessary military capabilities to the armed forces, for them to accomplish their mission at any given time, whichever situation they are confronted with.
• Cooperation. Because there is strength in numbers, our international teams are working hand in hand to innovate, develop and produce decisive capabilities. It is only by cooperating that we can protect sovereign defence for all our nations on a European scale.

MBDA in Italy has a high level of expertise in the following areas: 

• Missile seekers;
• Guidance navigation and control systems (GNC);
• Missile design, development and validation: from definition of missile architecture to design, development and design of RF seekers, involving the studies and associated definition of the aerodynamics, the propulsion system and the kill chain, through to studies to define the functional chains of GNC and image processing;
• Weapons systems: performance of trade-off studies to allocate requirements to subsystems; the design of all aspects relating to system Safety and Security and the evaluation of human factors; the design, development and validation of Command and Control/Mission Planning, communication and launch subsystems; the development of synthetic environment simulators for system validation.

MBDA Italy has also a close partnership with universities (including the universities of Naples, Milan, Pisa, Rome and Florence) and research centres (CIRA – the Italian Aerospace Research Centre and the CSM – the Materials Development Centre in Rome), primarily within the fields of RF equipment and radar, advanced materials, mechanical engineering, electronics and testing areas.
