For the first time ever, MBDA is attending VivaTech, Europe’s largest start-up and technology event, held in Paris from 17 to 20 June, with the Group showcasing some of its latest innovations.
Space emerged as a central focus, reflecting its growing importance as a strategic domain for security, sovereignty and resilience.
Presenting the Importance of Space Security
The rise of New Space has greatly expanded access to a domain once seen as the preserve of scientists, creating new opportunities for innovation while also introducing new threats. In an increasingly complex geopolitical context, space has become critical to global security. Satellite infrastructure now underpins communications, navigation, intelligence and defence systems, making its protection a strategic priority.
MBDA’s vision recognises this evolution and places space at the forefront of future defence capabilities. The Group is actively developing solutions that enhance orbital resilience.
Presenting a Cutting-Edge Solution to Secure Space Infrastructure
Among the innovations showcased at VivaTech 2026, SPLINTER has been attracting particular attention as one of MBDA’s most ambitious space projects.
“The aim of this programme is to demonstrate a fully integrated end-to-end capability for detecting, identifying, and responding to potential in-orbit interference, representing a breakthrough level of innovation that will significantly enhance, like never before, the protection and resilience of space infrastructure.”
Nicolas LEFORT, Head of New Markets within MBDA’s Business Development department.
Designed with autonomous navigation, precision manoeuvring and artificial intelligence analysis, SPLINTER can approach and inspect satellites, but also react to suspicious or unusual activity, without creating any space debris. This breakthrough marks an important step towards enhancing national sovereignty and the protection of orbital assets.
By combining surveillance, autonomy and responsiveness, SPLINTER represents a significant step forward in strengthening orbital security and preserving freedom of action in space.
VivaTech 2026 provides an ideal platform for presenting this programme to a broad audience, highlighting both its technological ambition and its strategic relevance in a rapidly evolving domain.
Through SPLINTER, MBDA reinforces its commitment to anticipating future threats and delivering innovative solutions that strengthen sovereignty in space and beyond.
