The HYDIS project has officially achieved the Mission Definition Review (MDR) milestone, marking a major step ahead in its Concept Phase.

The HYDIS project has officially achieved the Mission Definition Review (MDR) milestone, marking a major step ahead in its Concept Phase. This is the result of an intense and collaborative work with the customers (OCCAR and the participating states: France, Germany, Italy and the Netherlands) successfully reaching a strategic alignment on the user's requirements.

This has been possible thanks to the combination of GFis (Government Furnished Information) and dedicated workshops facilitated by representatives of industry (seven in the first 18 months of the project) to define and agree the collective customers’ needs in terms of threats, set priorities, mission scenarios, weapon system requirements encompassing crucial aspects like platform integration, target designation and engagement plan, safety, environment and lifecycle, security and cyber.
Detailed threats characterization has been developed by the Consortium RTOs (Research and Technology Organisation), CIRA, ONERA and TNO, leading to a classified dossier which brings together key elements like threats geometry and materials, aero-thermal database, internal geometry for the vulnerability models, the IR and RF signatures, the set of possible trajectories including penetration aids.

These sessions, facilitated by representatives of industry, have seen the proactive participation of customers' subject matter experts leading to a unified vision for the final output.
The rigorous review process for this milestone, started with the kick-off meeting on 26 March, spanned an entire month, involving deep-dive evaluations of all the deliverables.

The review was concluded with the steering committee held on 24 April when the milestone has been officially declared successfully passed by the Programme Committee representatives of the participating states.
With this step passed, the HYDIS project is soon about to enter its final phase being firmly on track for full completion of its Concept Phase by May 2027.
HYDIS is one step closer to delivering a transformative solution for the European missile defence capabilities.

The European Hypersonic Defence Interceptor System” (HYDIS) is a project co-funded by the European Union, under the European Defence Fund, and by four Participating States (PSs) which are France, Germany, Italy and the Netherlands. OCCAR has been entrusted by the European Commission (EC) for the indirect management of the action by the signature of a Contribution Agreement. OCCAR, as Contracting Authority, has concluded a contract with the HYDIS consortium to implement the programme, on behalf of EU and the Member States.
