The Danish Ministry of Defence placed its trust in the combat proven ASTER missile to be the backbone of its long-range air and missile defence when it selected the SAMP/T NG system as it state of the art solution.

This selection reinforces SAMP/T and ASTER interoperability among Europe countries within NATO. eurosam, MBDA and Thales continue to lead the way in providing advanced air defence systems in response to the increasingly challenging threats European defence faces.

After the selection of MISTRAL 3 in 2024 through EDIRPA (European Defence industry reinforcement through common procurement act), and that of VL MICA earlier this year, the Danish authorities are re-confirming their trust in MBDA’s multi-layered solutions designed to strengthen European air defence.

European cooperation at the heart of MBDA’s DNA

The SAMP/T NG system has been developed through a cooperation between Italy and France, and utilizes the ASTER family of missiles (ASTER 30 B1 and ASTER B1NT) that are the cornerstone of Europe’s land and naval based missile defence.

Soon-to-be in service with France and Italy SAMP/T NG, offers a multi-layer capability through integration and coordination with short and very-short range air defence (SHORAD and V-SHORAD) assets, enabling full integration into national and NATO air defence networks. At the occasion of a symposium held on 19 May 2025 by European Armament Directorates - in the framework of the European Commission ReArm Europe Plan - France proposed 3 structuring projects, among which SAMP/T NG was proposed, alongside VL MICA and MISTRAL 3.

Thanks to its quick deployment with a limited number of personal, SAMP/T NG provides 360° protection to dense civilian environments, armed forces, and sensitive military sites. It can defeat all types of threats simultaneously, including countering emerging and future threats. These can be as diverse as manoeuvring ballistic missiles, re-entry vehicle ballistic missiles, high speed tactical missiles, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and highly manoeuvring aircraft in saturating attack scenarios. All in challenging electronic warfare (EW) and contested environments.

A combat proven and innovative solution

Being a pillar of sovereign air defence, ASTER is the essential European missile family to protect European skies and increase NATO's defence capabilities, as demonstrated by its use in the Red Sea and Ukraine.

The latest ASTER B1NT missile provides an extended air defence domain and an improved interception capability to face the evolution of new complex threats. In the summer of 2025, the DGA, the French government's defence procurement and technology agency,  successfully test-fired the missile for the second time validating the proper functioning of the missile equipment at very long range and at high altitude of flight (beyond 25km).

MBDA continues its commitment to cooperation and innovation at the service of nations’ sovereignty. The Group is expanding production capabilities and strategic partnerships.

Altogether, this is reinforcing European defence readiness, and MBDA remains the only European group offering a comprehensive portfolio of sovereign capabilities.
