The Qatari Emiri Navy selects the latest generation missile from the Exocet family
MBDA is pleased to announce that the Qatari Emiri Navy will procure a batch of Exocet MM40 BLOCK 3 missiles to equip its fleet of four Vita class Patrol Boats.
This latest generation of naval superiority missile has a significantly extended range thanks to its turbojet propulsion. And thanks to its GPS navigation, the new Exocet MM40 BLOCK 3 is able to strike a target designated by its geographical coordinates, while remaining compatible with existing MM40 launchers.
The Commander of the Qatari Emiri Naval Forces (QENF), Staff Brigadier (SEA) Mohammed Bin Nasser Al Mohannadi, said “The missile development project is in line with our development plan to update the Qatari Emiri Naval Forces. It is an integrated project which includes training officers and other navy personnel to deal with modernised missile systems, the development of missile launcher systems and updating with the latest technology in the field”.
Antoine Bouvier, CEO of MBDA, stated: “I am honoured that the Qatari Emiri Navy, one of the region’s most demanding armed forces, has decided to prolong its partnership with MBDA which already dates back several decades. In choosing Exocet MM40 Block 3, the Qatari Emiri Navy is not only opting for the most modern of anti-ship capabilities it is also maximising its past investment in the Exocet family, as well as benefiting from all the advantages associated with a weapon series that has achieved sales of 3,500 units around the world”.
The EXOCET family has an OTH (Over The Horizon) firing capability and a range of other operational benefits including :
- low radar signature
- late seeker activation
- sea-skimming at very low altitude
- enhanced target selection and ECCM (Electronic counter-countermeasures)
- high penetration capability against modern naval air defences
Since entering service in 1972, 3,500 EXOCET missiles, in all configurations, have been sold to 35 countries.
EXOCET MM40 BLOCK 3 has been ordered by the French Navy and will equip its variant of the Franco-Italian FREMM frigate. It has also been ordered by several other export customers. In March 2010, the French navy carried out an operational firing of an Exocet MM40 BLOCK 3 from its Horizon class Chevalier Paul frigate.
La société MBDA est heureuse d’annoncer que la marine du Qatar va procéder à l’acquisition d’un lot de missiles Exocet MM40 BLOCK 3 pour équiper ses quatre patrouilleurs de la classe Vita.
Ce missile de dernière génération, conçu pour garantir la supériorité navale, bénéficie d’une portée largement étendue, grâce à l’adoption d’un turboréacteur. Son système de navigation par GPS permet en outre au nouvel Exocet MM40 BLOCK 3 d’atteindre sa cible désignée par ses coordonnées géographiques, tout en restant compatible avec les lanceurs MM40 existants.
“Ce projet de développement de missile s’inscrit directement dans le cadre de notre plan de développement, qui a pour but de remettre à niveau les forces navales émiraties – a expliqué le Chef d’Etat-major (SEA) de la marine émiratie (QENF), Mohammed Bin Nasser Al Mohannadi. Il s’agit d’un projet intégré, qui implique des officiers-instructeurs et d’autres personnels de la marine appelés à s’occuper des systèmes de missile modernisés. Le projet porte notamment sur le développement de systèmes lance-missiles et sur des mises à niveau à partir des technologies les plus modernes”.

La famille EXOCET dispose d’une capacité de tir transhorizon (OTH – Over The Horizon) et de toute une série d’avantages opérationnels :
- faible signature radar,
- activation retardée de l’autodirecteur,
- capacité de vol rasant à très faible altitude,
- sélection de cible et contre-contre mesures électroniques (CCME) améliorées,
- haute capacité de pénétration contre les défenses antiaériennes navales les plus modernes.
Depuis son entrée en service, en 1972, l’EXOCET a été vendu à 3 500 exemplaires, dans toutes les configurations, à 35 pays au total.
L’Exocet MM40 BLOCK 3 a été commandé par la marine nationale française pour équiper sa variante de la frégate franco-italienne FREMM. Ce missile a aussi été commandé par plusieurs autres clients à l’export. La marine française a procédé en mars 2010 au tir en conditions opérationnelles d’un Exocet MM40 BLOCK 3 depuis sa frégate Chevalier Paul de la classe Horizon.

Dank eines Turbostrahltriebwerks besitzt die neueste Generation des Marine-Überlegenheitsflugkörpers eine deutlich größere Reichweite. Sein GPS-Navigationssystem ermöglicht dem neuen Exocet MM40 BLOCK 3 ein über geographische Koordinaten zugewiesenes Ziel zu treffen und dabei gleichzeitig mit den vorhandenen MM40-Werfern kompatibel zu bleiben.

Die EXOCET-Familie verfügt über eine OTH- (Over The Horizon) Abschussfähigkeit und eine bedeutende Anzahl weiterer operativer Vorteile wie zum Beispiel:
- geringe Radarsignatur
- späte Suchkopfaktivierung
- Sea-skimming in sehr geringer Höhe
- verbesserte Zielauswahl und ECCM-Fähigkeit (elektronische Maßnahmen gegen Gegenmaßnahmen)
- hohe Durchdringungsfähigkeit gegen modernste Schiffs-Flugabwehrsysteme
Seit ihrer Indienststellung im Jahre 1972 wurden 3.500 EXOCET-Flugkörper in allen Konfigurationen an 35 Länder verkauft.
Exocet MM40 BLOCK 3 wurde von der französischen Marine beauftragt und dient zur Ausrüstung ihrer Variante der französisch-italienischen FREMM-Fregatte. Es liegen auch Aufträge von verschiedenen anderen Exportkunden vor. Im März 2010 führte die französische Marine von ihrer Fregatte der Horizon-Klasse Chevalier Paul einen Exocet MM40 BLOCK 3–Schuss unter operationellen Bedingungen durch.
MBDA ha il piacere di annunciare che la Marina Militare del Qatar acquisterà un lotto di missili Exocet MM40 BLOCK 3 per l’equipaggiamento di quattro motovedette classe Vita.
Questi missili navali, di ultima generazione, hanno un raggio notevolmente più esteso grazie al sistema di propulsione a turbogetto. E grazie al sistema di navigazione GPS, il nuovoExocet MM40 BLOCK 3 è in grado di colpire un bersaglio designato in base alle relative coordinate geografiche, pur restando compatibile con i lanciatori MM40 esistenti.
Il comandante delle Forze Navali del Qatar (QENF), Staff Brigadier, Mohammed Bin Nasser Al Mohannadi ha affermato: “Il progetto di sviluppo missilistico è in linea con il nostro piano di sviluppo per modernizzare le Forze Navali del Qatar. Si tratta di un progetto integrato che comprende l’addestramento di ufficiali e di altro personale della Marina per l’utilizzo di sistemi missilistici moderni, lo sviluppo di sistemi lanciamissili e l’acquisizione delle più moderne tecnologie del settore”.

La famiglia EXOCET presenta funzionalità di tiro Over-the-Horizon (OTH) e una serie di altri vantaggi operativi, tra cui:
- bassa segnatura radar
- attivazione seeker ritardata
- volo di crociera a bassissima quota
- selezione dei bersagli e contro-contromisure elettroniche (ECCM) potenziate
- elevata capacità di penetrazione contro le moderne difese aeronavali
Fin dalla sua entrata in servizio nel 1972, sono stati venduti a 35 nazioni, 3.500 missili EXOCET, in ogni tipo di configurazione.
Exocet MM40 BLOCK 3 è stato ordinato dalla Marina Militare francese ed equipaggerà la variante della fregata franco-italiana FREMM. È stato ordinato anche da diversi altri clienti internazionali. Nel marzo 2010, la Marina Militare francese ha condotto un tiro di prova di un Exocet MM40 BLOCK 3 dalla fregata Chevalier Paul classe Horizon.
