Continued growth and more recruitment for MBDA in 2017
In 2016 for the fourth consecutive year MBDA’s orders significantly exceeded sales in value terms as new orders rose to €4.7 billion against sales of €3.0 billion. The value of the order book jumped again to €15.9 billion at 31 December 2016, giving an excellent outlook for the next five years.
Domestic orders at the remarkably high level of €3.2 billion, are helping to significantly expand MBDA’s portfolio of products. The UK has contracted the development phase of the SPEAR missile that will give the F-35 a unique multi-purpose stand-off precision strike capability. The UK’s family of ASRAAM/CAMM anti-air missiles also won contracts to be integrated onto the F-35 Lightning II fighter and Type 26 frigate.
In France and Italy the Aster family will take a great leap forward in quality of performance against new types of manoeuvrable ballistic missiles. The Franco-British deep-strike SCALP/Storm Shadow programme, which has been in service since 2003, will be updated by 2020. Finally, France has announced the mid-life update of ASMPA to ensure that this air-launched missile of its deterrent remains reliable, available and high-performance.
Export orders (€1.5 billion) include the equipment and missiles for the 36 Rafales bought by India in September but not the major contracts for MCDS coastal defence systems and for arming the Fincantieri’s combat ships for Qatar, which were signed in 2016 and will be recorded in this year’s accounts.
In order to sustain this robust growth potential, 2017 will see an increase in recruitment by MBDA. Recruitment began to rise in 2013, with around 600 new hirings a year between 2013 and 2015, increasing to 1,000 in 2016. We expect this to rise further in 2017 and plan to take on 1,100 new staff this year across all our home countries.
In our home markets, last year was marked by greater Franco-British co-operation following the ratification of an intergovernmental agreement that will facilitate internal company exchanges between the two countries and allow MBDA to optimise its industrial organisation. The agreement is considered a world first for sovereign industries.
In response to the call, in Germany’s 2016 white paper on security and the future of the German military, for deeper co-operation in European programmes and a stronger European Defence and Technological and Industrial Base (EDTIB), MBDA’s Executive Committee made a decision, effective 1 January 2017, to bring MBDA Deutschland into the integrated perimeter of the Group. The resulting reorganisation of work will tighten collaboration between teams to the benefit of MBDA Deutschland and the rest of the Group. In the framework of national regulations for defence and security, the strength of the entire Group can now be enlisted to deal with technical challenges presented by the TLVS programme that will give the German armed forces enhanced defence capabilities.
In the field of exports, MBDA is continuing to expand into its main client countries and has signed agreements with Polish, Indian and UAE industries. These will allow us to push down our roots into these countries and absorb them into our industrial base.

Pour la quatrième année consécutive, MBDA a enregistré en 2016 un niveau de commandes très soutenu, largement supérieur à celui de ses facturations. Les prises de commandes ont atteint 4,7 Md€ tandis que les ventes s’établissaient à 3,0 Md€. Le carnet de commandes enregistre un nouveau bond à 15,9 Md€ au 31 décembre 2016 et assure une excellente visibilité sur les cinq années à venir.
Les commandes domestiques, qui ont atteint le niveau exceptionnel de 3,2 Md€, viennent renforcer significativement le portefeuille de produits MBDA. Le Royaume-Uni a notifié la phase de développement du missile SPEAR, qui offrira au F-35 une capacité de frappe de précision à distance de sécurité d’une polyvalence inégalée. La famille des missiles anti-aériens ASRAAM/CAMM au Royaume-Uni est sécurisée sur les plates-formes F-35 et Type 26.
La famille Aster en France et en Italie connaîtra un saut qualitatif de ses performances contre de nouvelles catégories de missiles balistiques manoeuvrants. Le programme franco-britannique de frappe dans la profondeur SCALP/Storm Shadow en service depuis 2003, sera revalorisé d’ici 2020. Enfin, la France a notifié le programme de rénovation à mi-vie de l’ASMPA afin de maintenir le vecteur de la composante aéroportée de la dissuasion au meilleur niveau de fiabilité, de disponibilité et de performances.
A 1,5 Md€, les commandes à l’export prennent en compte l’équipement et les missiles des 36 Rafale acquis par l’Inde en septembre, mais n’incluent pas les importants contrats de systèmes de défense côtière MCDS et d’armement des navires de Fincantieri pour le Qatar qui ont été signés en 2016 et seront entrés dans les comptes cette année.
Pour accompagner ces solides perspectives de croissance, le plan d’embauche se poursuivra de manière volontariste en 2017. Les recrutements, qui sont repartis à la hausse en 2013, se sont établis à environ 600 embauches par an sur 2013, 2014 et 2015, pour passer à 1.000 personnes en 2016 et 1.100 prévues cette année, réparties à présent dans tous nos pays domestiques.
Sur les marchés domestiques, l’année écoulée a été marquée par les progrès de la coopération franco-britannique avec la ratification d’un accord intergouvernemental qui facilite les échanges internes à l’entreprise entre ces deux pays et permet ainsi à MBDA d’optimiser son organisation industrielle, ce qui est considéré comme une première mondiale dans le domaine des industries de souveraineté.
Par ailleurs, en réponse à l’appel du Livre Blanc allemand 2016 sur la sécurité et l’avenir de l’armée fédérale, en faveur d’un approfondissement de la coopération sur les programmes européens et d’un renforcement de la Base Industrielle et Technologique de Défense Européenne (BITD-E), le comité exécutif a pris la décision, effective depuis le 1er janvier 2017, de faire entrer MBDA Deutschland dans le périmètre intégré du groupe. La nouvelle organisation de travail qui en découle, permettra de resserrer le travail collaboratif des équipes pour le bénéfice réciproque de MBDA Deutschland et du reste du groupe. Ainsi, c’est l’ensemble du groupe qui, dans le respect des règlements nationaux, pourra être mobilisé pour relever les défis techniques du programme TLVS visant à doter les forces armées allemandes d’une capacité évoluée de défense.
Enfin, à l’exportation, MBDA continue son implantation chez ses principaux pays clients et a signé des accords avec l’industrie polonaise, indienne et émirienne pour approfondir son enracinement dans ces pays et les intégrer à sa base industrielle.

MBDA ha registrato nel 2016 ordini per 4,7 miliardi di euro, attestandosi – per il quarto anno consecutivo – ad un livello significativamente superiore ai ricavi che sono stati pari a 3 miliardi di euro. Il portafoglio ordini ha continuato a crescere raggiungendo i 15,9 miliardi di euro al 31 dicembre 2016, garantendo così eccellenti prospettive per i prossimi cinque anni.
Gli ordini domestici, che hanno raggiunto l’eccezionale livello di 3,2 miliardi di euro, consentono ad MBDA di accrescere in maniera significativa il portafoglio prodotti. Il Regno Unito, ad esempio, ha firmato un contratto per la fase di sviluppo del missile SPEAR che garantirà all’F-35 Lightning II una capacità senza pari di attacco di precisione a distanza di sicurezza. Inoltre, la famiglia di missili anti-aerei ASRAAM/CAMM si è assicurata contratti per l’integrazione sui caccia F-35 e sulle fregate Type 26.
In Francia ed Italia invece, la famiglia Aster incrementerà notevolmente le proprie capacità contro nuovi missili balistici manovranti, grazie alla versione B1NT del missile Aster 30. Il programma franco-britannico relativo al missile da crociera SCALP/Storm Shadow, in servizio dal 2003, sarà oggetto di ammodernamenti (entro il 2020) che ne prolungheranno la vita operativa. Infine, la Francia ha annunciato il programma per l’ammodernamento di mezza vita dell’ASMPA, al fine di mantenerne l’affidabilità, la disponibilità e le prestazioni operative.
Gli ordini export 2016, pari a 1,5 miliardi di euro, comprendono l’equipaggiamento ed i missili per i 36 caccia Rafale acquistati dall’India a settembre. Gli importanti contratti firmati con il Qatar per la fornitura dei sistemi di difesa costiera MCDS e dei sistemi di armamento delle nuove navi che il paese ha acquistato da Fincantieri saranno contabilizzati nel 2017.
Per sostenere adeguatamente queste solide prospettive di crescita, MBDA prevede di continuare il piano di assunzioni anche nel 2017. L’aumento delle assunzioni è iniziato nel 2013, con l’ingresso di circa 600 dipendenti all’anno nel 2013, 2014 e 2015, per passare ai 1.000 nel 2016, sino ai 1.100 previsti per quest’anno tra tutti i paesi di MBDA.
Per quanto riguarda i mercati domestici, lo scorso anno ha visto l’ulteriore crescita della collaborazione franco-britannica con la ratifica di un accordo intergovernativo volto a facilitare gli scambi all’interno dell’azienda tra questi due paesi e che allo stesso tempo consentirà ad MBDA di ottimizzare la propria organizzazione industriale. Questo tipo di accordo è considerato il primo nel suo genere a livello mondiale.
Inoltre, l’Executive Committee di MBDA ha scelto di includere MBDA Deutschland nel perimetro integrato di Gruppo, con effetto dal 1° gennaio 2017. Questo per rispondere alla richiesta di una maggiore collaborazione nei programmi europei e al rafforzamento della Base Industriale e Tecnologica della Difesa Europea (BITD-E), espressa nel Libro Bianco 2016 della Germania relativo alla sicurezza e al futuro della difesa tedesca. La nuova organizzazione consentirà di irrobustire la collaborazione tra i team, a beneficio reciproco di MBDA Deutschland e del resto del Gruppo. Nel pieno rispetto delle normative nazionali in tema di difesa e sicurezza, tutta MBDA potrà quindi sostenere al meglio le sfide tecniche del programma tedesco TLVS, mirato a fornire all’esercito una capacità evoluta di difesa contro le minacce aeree e balistiche.
Infine, per quanto riguarda i mercati export, MBDA ha continuato a crescere nei paesi dei suoi principali clienti, firmando accordi con l’industria polacca, indiana ed emiratina, al fine di rafforzare la propria presenza in loco e, al contempo, favorirne l’ingresso nella propria base industriale.

Im vierten aufeinanderfolgenden Jahr hat MBDA 2016 einen Auftragseingang verbucht, der den Umsatz deutlich überschreitet. Der Auftragseingang stieg auf 4,7 Mrd. Euro, der Umsatz lag bei 3,0 Mrd. Euro. Der gesamte Auftragsbestand stieg zum 31. Dezember 2016 auf 15,9 Mrd. Euro, eine sehr gute Ausgangsbasis für die kommenden fünf Jahre.
Die Auftragseingänge in den Heimatmärkten erreichten einen besonders hohen Wert von 3,2 Mrd. Euro erreicht, was das Produktportfolio von
MBDA erheblich stärkt. Großbritannien hat die Entwicklung des Lenkflugkörpers SPEAR unter Vertrag genommen, der dem F-35-Kampfflugzeug eine hohe Präzisions- und Abstandsfähigkeit verleiht. Außerdem wurden Verträge für die Luft-Luft-Lenkflugkörperfamilie ASRAAM/CAMM unterzeichnet. Die Lenkflugkörper werden in Großbritannien in das Kampfflugzeug F-35 Lightning II und die Fregatte Typ 26 integriert werden.
Die Aster-Familie wird in Frankreich und Italien weiterentwickelt, um die Leistungsfähigkeit gegen neue schnell manövrierende ballistische Flugkörper zu steigern. Das 2003 gestartete französisch-britische Programm für Flugkörper großer Reichweite SCALP/Storm Shadow wird bis 2020 modernisiert werden. Darüber hinaus hat Frankreich die Nutzungsdauerverlängerung der ASMPA-(Air-Sol Moyenne Portée) Flugkörper bekannt gegeben.
Die Exportaufträge im Wert von 1,5 Mrd. Euro enthalten die Ausrüstung und die Lenkflugkörper der im September von Indien erworbenen 36 Rafale-Kampfflugzeuge. Darin nicht enthalten sind die umfangreichen Verträge für die Küstenverteidigungssysteme MCDS (Marte Coastal Defence System) und die Bewaffnung der Fincantieri-Schiffe für Katar. Die Verträge wurden 2016 unterzeichnet und in diesem Jahr verbucht.
Um dieses solide Wachstumspotenzial zu stützen, sind 2017 weitere Neueinstellungen geplant. Die Einstellungen beliefen sich in den Jahren 2013, 2014 und 2015 auf jeweils 600 pro Jahr und stiegen 2016 auf 1000 Personen pro Jahr. In diesem Jahr sind 1100 Neueinstellungen vorgesehen.
In den Heimatmärkten war das vergangene Jahr von den Fortschritten der französisch-britischen Zusammenarbeit geprägt: Es wurde ein Regierungsabkommen verabschiedet, das den unternehmensinternen Austausch zwischen den beiden Ländern vereinfacht und der MBDA die Optimierung ihrer industriellen Organisation ermöglicht. Dies ist in diesem Sektor ein Novum.
Als Reaktion auf das Deutsche Weißbuch 2016 zur Sicherheitspolitik und zur Zukunft der Bundeswehr, folgt MBDA der Forderung nach mehr europäischer Zusammenarbeit und Stärkung der verteidigungstechnologischen und industriellen Basis Europas (EDTIB). Das MBDA Executive Committee hat vor diesem Hintergrund entschieden, MBDA Deutschland stärker in die MBDA Gruppe einzubinden. Ziel ist es, die Zusammenarbeit der Teams zum gemeinsamen Vorteil von MBDA Deutschland und der Gruppe zu stärken. Die Änderungen sind am 01. Januar 2017 in Kraft getreten.
Im Rahmen der nationalen Sicherheits- und Verteidigungsrichtlinien kann die Stärke der gesamten Gruppe genutzt werden, um die technischen Herausforderungen des TLVS Programms zu meistern und der Bundeswehr ein leistungsfähiges Luftverteidigungssystem zur Verfügung zu stellen.
Im Export setzt MBDA die Aktivitäten in den wichtigsten Kundenländern fort und hat mit Polen, Indien und den Vereinigten Arabischen Emiraten Vereinbarungen unterzeichnet. Ziel ist es, die Zusammenarbeit mit diesen Ländern zu vertiefen.
„2016 war ein entscheidendes Jahr“, sagte Antoine Bouvier, CEO von MBDA. „Der Erfolg von heute ist die Grundlage für die MBDA von morgen. Die positiven Zukunftsaussichten ergeben sich durch eine effektivere industrielle Organisation, die die europäische Zusammenarbeit fördert, durch die Verjüngung der Belegschaft und einem Auftragsbuch, das einen historischen Höchststand erreicht hat. Diese MBDA wird die Zusammenarbeit mit den Export- und Partnerländern unserer Heimatländer forcieren. Diese MBDA wird ihre kritische Größe von Jahr zu Jahr festigen, um ihren europäischen Kunden auf nachhaltige Weise den Zugang zu Schlüsseltechnologien zu ermöglichen, die unsere Streitkräfte zur Erfüllung ihrer Aufträge benötigen.“
