Deployed for the first time in a ground-to-air, area defence configuration, VL MICA has intercepted a low signature target flying just a few metres above the surface of the sea.

MBDA Incorporated today announced the successful demonstration of a Semi-Active Laser Guided Zuni rocket at the Navy’s test facilities at China Lake, CA. utilizing the WGU-58/B Guidance and Control System developed in cooperation with the Naval Air Warfare Center Weapons Division (NAWCWD).
To provide land forces with new operational capabilities, MBDA, Panhard and Sagem have modified the WASP remote-controlled turret to enable crews to fire MILAN ER medium-range missiles under armour protection.
The WASP MILAN ER turret is being presented at the 2009 Paris International Air Show on the Panhard stand (No. AB020), mounted on a light armoured vehicle (VBL).
On 2nd June, the Board of MBDA Inc. approved the appointment of Jerry Agee, as Chairman of the Board, Chief Executive Officer and President of MBDA Inc. with immediate effect.
MBDA is launching studies with a view to adding two new missile types, Marte MK2 S-A and Marte ER (Extended Range), to its Marte MK2 family of missiles. These two new missiles will significantly increase the operational flexibility of this already highly effective range of anti-ship missile systems. Marte MK2/S-A and Marte ER will in due course be added to a range of missiles which currently includes the helicopter-launched Marte MK2/S and the ship-launched Marte MK2/N.
In a few days, an innovative approach to defence equipment research will be delivering its first results. MBDA, at the heart of a partnership bringing together French and UK efforts in the field of missiles, is co-ordinating a team that includes large businesses, SMEs, laboratories and universities. The Innovation and Technology Partnership on Materials and Components for Missiles (MCM ITP) is being performed under a Technical Arrangement between French Delegation Generale pour l’Armement (DGA) and UK Ministry of Defence (MOD) to optimise missile research activities.
Following an international competition launched in 2007, the VL MICA short-range air defence system, in its ground-based configuration, has won its first export customer order. This success reinforces that already achieved by the naval variant of VL MICA which has already been ordered by two export customers.
