Modern warhead technologies guarantee the optimum "terminal effect", thus determining to a great extent the operational effectiveness of the missile systems deployed. TDW is the European leader in the development and manufacture of warheads for guided missiles, drones and torpedoes. TDW contributes its know-how in all fields relating to warheads and their component parts, including design and assessment, development and qualification, manufacture and integration, testing and validation.
Depending on customer requirements, TDW will develop complete warheads, or warhead components such as the explosive charge, the safety device or the fuzing system. On the industrial level, TDW produces complete warheads with special emphasis on the manufacture and adaptation of explosive charges. TDW has played a pioneering role in the realm of insensitive explosive charges.
Among the high-performance TDW products are the shaped charge systems for the MILAN and HOT missiles and the PARS 3 LR antitank missile, the fragmentation warheads for the ESSM, ASRAAM, SIDEWINDER, RAM and recently-developed METEOR missiles, as well as the anti-aircraft lethality enhancer PAC-3 supplemented by ALARM (for combating radar sites). In addition, TDW develops the warhead for the new anti-ship missiles NSM and RBS15 Mk3 as well as the insensitive torpedo warhead for STING RAY Mod 1.
The systems for explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) and mine clearance are interesting by-products.
The development trends are determined by:
 Intelligent explosive charges with directional effect, scalable effect or target-adaptive selectable effect with sufficient performance when deployed against military targets, but avoiding or minimising collateral damage.
Insensitive munitions (IM) for protection of one's own troops against unintended effects such as shelling or fire.
